You can now track exactly which buttons, text links, or images are being clicked, without needing any third-party tools. All click data is now surfaced directly in your Topic Analytics dashboard.
What Is Link Tracking?
Link Tracking allows you to measure engagement with clickable elements in your walkthroughs. You’ll see how many total clicks, unique users, and click-through rates are happening on links inside steps.
This includes:
- Links in Text blocks (WYSIWYG editor)
- Buttons
- Linked Images
Each tracked link is assigned a Reference ID, which appears in analytics so you can easily identify and compare performance.
How to Set Up Link Tracking
You can enable Link Tracking directly in the Inline Manual Builder while setting up an action:
Select any link, button, or image action.
Check the Track clicks option.
A Reference ID field will appear. Enter a unique label that helps you identify the link in reports.
Once saved and published, clicks will start appearing in the Link Clicks section of your Topic analytics.
Viewing Link Performance
In your Topic Analytics, you’ll see:
Total Views
Unique Users
Total Clicks
Completion count
Link Clicks, broken down by Reference ID
This allows you to analyze which elements drive engagement, and which might need adjusting.
Best Practices
- Use clear Reference IDs (e.g., link-button-next, link-text-deactivate) for easier tracking.
- Keep Reference IDs consistent if using the same links across Topics.
- Combine with step-level analytics for a full picture of user behavior.
